Our Charity: The Nevis Academy Foundation

St. Kitts and Nevis
Nevis, founded in 1643 and paired with nearby St. Kitts in a two-island federation, sits in the West Indies. Born of a volcano and home to about 12,000 residents, the island once exported fruit before becoming one of the Caribbean’s top sugar producers in the 17th century.
Today, tourism drives its laid-back economy, with most visitors arriving through St. Kitts’ international airport and cruise port. Visitors come to the former British colony for the uncrowded, uncommercialized slice of paradise with pristine beaches, vibrant farms and orchards, and a vibrant history. Nevis is, after all, the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton, one of America’s Founding Fathers.
The Importance of Education
Education matters everywhere, but in Nevis, a tiny Caribbean island of about 12,000 people, it matters even more because every student plays a big role in the island’s future.
Good primary schooling builds the basics like reading, math, and problem-solving, helps close inequality gaps, and strengthens an economy that depends heavily on tourism but is working hard to broaden its opportunities. When Nevis improves elementary education, the impact doesn’t stop at its shores; it boosts global talent, economic stability, and progress toward international development goals, showing how even small nations can create ripple effects worldwide.
Creating Opportunities
When discovering a school that was in financial distress in 2011, U.S. entrepeneur Carl Spadaro saved the institution from collapse. It was renamed the Nevis Academy, a private primary school for grades K-6, and quickly developed a reputation for excellence, garnering glowing testimonials from parents.
The school offers an up-to-date, enriching curriculum while providing a safe, caring, and structured environment for students. Activities such as sports and community service are offered throughout the year, encouraging students to develop integrity, kindness, creativity, and tenacity.
Thanks in large part to Spadaro’s generosity, the school has flourished. But today, the school has reached a critical turning point. To continue growing and meet the students’ evolving needs, we urgently need your help. The Nevis Academy Foundation, a 501c3, was created to provide a clear and accessible way for donors to help achieve our goals.

How to Help
Numerous improvements are urgently needed. The school has grown from 32 to more than 142 children, leaving classrooms crowded. A dedicated cafeteria — which could also serve as an auditorium and general assembly space — is essential, along with a meal program.
We plan to expand the school by adding a dedicated pre-Kindergarten building and program, allowing students to begin their education within the same school community from the very start. In addition, the playground equipment is badly outdated, and the school lacks many basic resources, including sports gear.
